Creative entrepreneur / philanthropist at heart, I run a marketing business called Spice Creative where my recipe for success is: eye-catching graphic design combined with strategic consulting, a dash of quick wit and a spoonful of sugar. I believe in ‘Spice Karma’ and use my skills to give back to my clients and my community whenever possible.
I raised over $20,000 in less than a month for the Victoria Women’s Sexual Assault Centre (WSAC) using only my skills in social media marketing (ie. Facebook, Twitter, and a heartfelt e-mail) to ask for pledges to run a 1/2 marathon (without training)…. My goal was to raise $10,000– which I reached after just 10 days of launching the campaign! On race day, my BFF Connie and I managed to complete our 1/2 marathon with smiles on our faces (and jazz hands), in under 3 hours time. I now believe in miracles.
As a survivor of sexual assault, I was very touched and overwhelmed by the generosity and support from the community! The experience left me feeling more inspired than ever before, so I designed another marketing initiative called ‘Shhh Campaign’ that helped raise awareness for the shocking statistic that 1 in 3 women in Canada are sexually assaulted in their lifetime, while 1 in 4 survivors of sexual never tell anybody, or seek help. I spent months designing the t-shirts in collaboration with local fashion designer Marcie Leblanc of Leblanc Boutique, and we launched them at a fashion show held at the Fairmont Empress in the Spring- all proceeds benefited the WSAC.
The t-shirt launch event was sold out, and the unisex tshirts are still sold today as a sustainable fundraiser for the WSAC. In May 2011, I applied for the Smartgirl Challenge, an initiative made possible by Glaceau Smartwater and Plan Canada’s Because I am a Girl. (wow- longest sentence of all time… hahaha!) In June 2012, I found out I was chosen as one of three winners who would be given an incredible opportunity to travel to Rwanda with olympic freestyle medalist Jenn Heil of the Smartgirl Challenge, visit Plan Communities and go on Safari!!!! Obviously, I was over the moon with excitement! An example of Spice Karma giving back to me in a major way…
Anyway, enough about me, let’s talk about ME! Rambling runs in my family… What I’m trying to say is that my life is pretty awesome, so I blog about it.
